Life as a Vanguard Introduces Reid Dunivan, SGA President

October 1, 2021

Reid Dunivan

Reid Dunivan is the new Student Government Association president for the 2021-22 academic year. He took the oath of office at the end of the spring semester from outgoing SGA president Bailey Pendergrass.

Reid was active in SGA last year, serving as chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee. “It was a difficult year last year with remote classes and meetings, but working on the committee helped me to stay engaged and focused on the goals and projects,” said Reid. The Walking Path and permanent outdoor activities on the Beebe campus were among the 2020 SGA planned projects, which were recently unveiled.

“I’m excited to work with the other student leaders to strengthen the campus community. We encourage others to get involved and enjoy a great college experience,” said Reid.

Reid, originally from Bentonville, was encouraged by his parents to attend college and choose a career that he would enjoy.

Reid said he chose ASU-Beebe after meeting theatre instructor Ryan Gibbons. “I had also considered going to the UCA. Then, I got a call from him checking to see if I had any questions or if I had registered anywhere yet. I knew at that moment that I would get more personal attention here because he took the time to check back with me.”

Reid, a sophomore, is pursuing an Associate of Fine Arts degree in Theatre and is taking both in-person and online classes this fall.  Reid said his favorite classes have been theatre and oral communications.

After he earns an associate degree, Reid plans to continue his education. He already has a few career goals in mind. Reid works at Limelight Performance Academy in Cabot teaching students ages four to 14 and teaching private acting to students in the Beebe area. “I think it would be great to be part of a Broadway play one day,” said Reid. “But I plan to teach theatre at the college level.”

When not studying or participating in SGA, Reid said he enjoys the intramural activities offered on campus. He competed in archery last semester and won in the student division.

Reid is very passionate about being kind. He said he strives to be kind to others because it creates an environment of kindness and honesty.

Reid offered advice to other students, saying: “Don’t always play it safe. It’s okay to take a calculated risk.” He goes on further to say, “Show up, do your work, take time to plan ahead, and respect others.”
