AALA = Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts

The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts (AALA) is a 60 credit-hour general education transfer degree that requires courses in English/writing, the humanities and fine arts, history and the social sciences, mathematics, and the natural sciences. The AALA is designed for students who wish to take the first two years of a baccalaureate program before transferring to a four-year institution and guarantees that the general education core is satisfied at Arkansas four-year institutions. All electives must be chosen from the state-mandated directed electives list (see pages 96-98 of the catalog). Students preferring a broader range of elective opportunites should choose the Associate of Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Program Outcomes

  • Achieve competency in reading comprehension, effective written and oral communications, and collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Display critical and creative thinking, an awareness of history, global affairs and ethics, and an appreciation for the fine arts. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of mathematical concepts, scientific methodology and inquiry, and general applications of technology. 
  • Meet all of ASU-Beebe and Arkansas Division of Higher Education course requirements for transfer to a baccalaureate degree at a four-year institution.
