Auditions for the Arkansas State University-Beebe 2014 spring theater productions will be held Thursday, Jan. 16 and Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Owen Center Theater on the Beebe campus.
The spring theater productions will include Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen. Directed by Bruce Cohen, the event will be performed March 7-9. In 1881, Ibsen rocked the literary and theatrical worlds with the publication of Ghosts. However, audiences proved far more receptive to the adult topics and sexual content than the literati had initially been. Since then, Ghosts has become a masterpiece of Western literature.
The Odd Couple is the female version of Neil Simon’s contemporary comic classic. Directed by Don Eller, the play will be presented April 25-27. Florence Unger and Olive Madison are the female versions of The Odd Couple. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit … and the hilarity stays the same.
The auditions are open to community members to participate, and being an ASU-Beebe student is not a requirement. Those auditioning may perform a prepared monologue, or if preferred, readings from the script will be provided.
ASU-Beebe offers an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree with an emphasis in vocal music or instrumental music, theater, graphic design, or creative arts enterprise. This degree is a comprehensive two-year curriculum designed specifically for transfer toward a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
