Adult Education - What's New

Distance Education

The Adult Education Centers at ASU-Beebe are now offering distance education for students who are self-directed and self-motivated, but unable to attend classes, or who desire to work on their basic skills/GED® preparation after normal class hours.

Some requirements of the program include:

  • Students must complete initial paperwork and testing at the Adult Education center.  Minimum TABE scores are needed to be eligible
  • Students must have a reliable internet connection in order to participate in the distance education program
  • Students must meet with distance education instructors in order to be enrolled into the program.  Students must sign a contract agreeing to maintain contact with the instructors through email and phone, as well as fulfill the minimum hours of work per month on the computer.

To find out more about the Distance Education program offered through the ASU-Beebe Adult Education Centers, call (501) 207-6290 or stop by your nearest ASU-Beebe Adult Education Center.

2014 GED Test Changes

The GED® 21st Century Initiative will transform the GED® test into a comprehensive program that will prepare more adult learners for postsecondary education, training and careers. The new assessment system will now give adults the opportunity to demonstrate career and college readiness through a new endorsement. The new test is:

  • Aligned with Common Core State Standards
  • Delivered through Computer Based Testing requiring basic computer skills
  • Designed to demonstrate career and college readiness

The four subject-level assessments in 2014 are: Reasoning through Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematical Reasoning.

Accelerating Opportunities (AO)

Did you ever think about a career Auto Body?  Does learning a new skill or trade such as welding sound like something you want to do?  ASU-Searcy has a new program on campus that can help you achieve your goals.  Students who are enrolled in the Adult Education program can apply if they meet certain requirements of the program.  The program allows eligible students to attend  college classes in welding or Auto Body while also working toward their GED diploma.  With the assistance of technical and adult education instructors, students are offered more support and assistance to help them reach their educational goals.

For students interested in the Auto Body or welding programs, please see Sherry Organ in the Adult Education Department for more information regarding enrollment, testing, tuition and fees for this program.

ASU Searcy Adult Education Center is extending the Accelerating Opportunities program by adding Multi Skills training in four technical areas.  Adult students in the AO Multi Skills program will be able to receive a Technical Certificate in one academic year while attending GED classes. The Multi Skills AO classes emphasize four areas: Workplace Electricity, Concepts of Manufacturing Processes and Quality Control Principles, Concept of Fluid and Mechanical Power, and Metalworking.
