The health information technology program teaches students the duties and responsibilities of health care managers, medical billing and coders, medical records specialists, billing and posting clerks, medical transcriptionists, and business administrative assistants and office managers. Through textbooks, applications and simulations, students are given the opportunity to develop the skills required for this field of study. These skills include ICD-10-CM/PCS & CPT coding, insurance and billing, medical transcription, medical records management and reception area responsibilities.  

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills while applying knowledge of specialized medical office terminologies, processes, insurance and regulation systems. 
  • Prepare graduates for employment through multiple course offerings culminating with a medical office internship. 
  • Graduates will obtain a high-level knowledge of the proper application of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedures coding for successful AHIMA or AAPC coding certification.
