At ASU-Beebe, we strive provide standard health and industrial safety training for a broad range of workplace requirements. Our hands-on, direct engagement approach ensures satisfaction that the topic is covered thoroughly to improve worker safety. Our standard instructional formats currently include classroom lectures, audio-visual presentations, simulations and practical assessments when applicable. The course descriptions below will provide a general summary of what is taught for each of the listed training events on our calendar.
Heart-Saver First Aid/CPR - 6 Hours
This course trains participants in first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including how to recognize them, how to call for help and how to perform lifesaving skills. The course reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and the 2015 AHA/Red Cross Guidelines for First Aid.
CPR - 3 Hours
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency medical procedure for a victim of cardiac arrest, or in some circumstances, respiratory arrest. Its purpose is to maintain a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and the heart, thereby delaying tissue death and extending the brief window of opportunity for a successful resuscitation without permanent brain damage.
RN to EMT (Hybrid Course) - 70 Hours
The non-credit RN to EMT course is designed for licensed healthcare professionals that plan to work in helicopter-based EMS services. This course prepares the participant to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of Emergency Medical Technicians, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting and providing patient transportation. The course consists of an online component of 46 hours and an in-class component of 24 hours. All online components must be successfully completed for the instructor to approve participation in the 24-hour in-class component.
Forklift Safety - 4 Hours
Many of the manufacturing partners that we assist in our area have positions available that require forklift experience. This course teaches the basic skills of operating a forklift through classroom instruction and by operating a forklift to determine practical understanding of the content taught during the class. There is a heavy emphasis on safety topics to promote responsible driving that can be applied in any situation. Some of the topics include a forklift equipment check, proper use of lifts, notifying pedestrians of your presence and how to properly assess weight distribution for loading elevated shelves.
OSHA 10 | General Industry - 10 Hours
OSHA-authorized courses are designed to teach workplace safety and reduce job site hazards. ASU-Beebe offers this 10-hour training course as a convenient way for workers to learn about hazard avoidance, workers' rights, filing an OSHA complaint and more. This training can be used to make workers more knowledgeable about their rights related to workplace safety, health and overall workplace hazards. The OSHA 10-hour course is intended for entry-level workers. OSHA 10 training benefits include:
- Promoting a culture of safety through peer training with those who have done the hands-on work, typically OSHA authorized trainers.
- Participatory, hands-on activities.
- Tailoring of the training topics based on specific needs of the audience.
OSHA 30-General Industry - 30 Hours
The OSHA 30-hour training courses for General Industry teach health and safety awareness by helping supervisors and workers reduce the risk of workplace hazards. ASU-Beebe offers this 30-hour training course as a convenient way for supervisors or workers in leadership roles to learn about an expanded list of safety topics associated with workplace hazards, including the recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of workplace hazards. OSHA 30 training benefits include:
- Identifying potential safety hazards, like lack of space around electrical equipment.
- Reducing these hazards through proper handling of equipment, proper arrangement of the workplace or donning the proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Eliminating these hazards in the future.
- Reporting hazards to managers to create a safer work environment for all.
