ASU-Beebe students, faculty, staff and alumni were honored at the Arkansas Community Colleges (ACC) 2025 Annual Conference held Oct. 12-14 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
“Each ASU-Beebe awardee this year exemplifies the Vanguard spirit through their unique and extremely impactful service and leadership,” said Dr. Jennifer Methvin, chancellor for ASU-Beebe. “It was gratifying to celebrate each one with our community colleges colleagues from across the state.”
Academic All-Star Award recipient, Augustus “Gus” Harris from Carlisle, is a first-generation college student pursuing a degree in education with plans to transfer to A-State and become a secondary science teacher. Known for his servant leadership, Gus was elected Student Government President at ASU-Beebe. He also serves as a resident assistant, admissions ambassador, and is an active member of the TRIO Leadership Council and Future Educators Club. Gus was recently honored with the Outstanding First-Year Student Award for leading a campus safety improvement project. His passion for helping others continues to shape his journey as a student and future educator.
Outstanding Alumni Award recipient, Leroy Goff, enrolled at ASU-Beebe in 1961, pursuing a degree in education. After completing two years, he then transferred to Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway (UCA). He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees and began teaching history at Jacksonville Junior High School, where he later became the vice principal. While teaching, Leroy obtained a real estate license and in 1969 established Goff, Inc. In 1974, Goff went into the real estate business full time, acquiring rental property, building houses and selling real estate. After 56 years, Goff has attributed his success to offering fair, quality service to his customers.
Outstanding Faculty Award recipient, Chuck Wisdom, Jr., a 30-year faculty member, veteran, mentor and community leader, passed away unexpectedly on March 10. Wisdom joined ASU-Beebe in 1995, serving as assistant professor of agriculture. He was known for his hands-on, practical approach to agricultural education, utilizing the ASU-Beebe farm and facilities to enrich his students’ learning experiences. Wisdom served as Ag Club advisor and organized the annual Ag Day, which celebrated its 69th year in February. He also volunteered at the Sunshine Rodeo, a rodeo-themed event for students with developmental disabilities. His passion for agriculture, education and student success left an indelible mark on ASU-Beebe.
Outstanding Staff Award recipient, Zackery Tucker, dean of students, stepped onto the campus eight years ago, becoming a role model in leadership, resilience, humility and heart. He has led or participated in more than 20 institutional committees and task forces, from chairing the Shared Governance Council and Facilities & Events Committee, to co-chairing commencement. He also mentored numerous student leaders over the years, leading by example during the pandemic in managing contact tracing and response efforts. Whether helping launch initiatives like the Student Emergency Hope Fund or being there for colleagues and students during personal moments, Tucker does everything in the spirit of excellence.
