England Center Art Gallery Features Richard Stephens Exhibit During February

The ASU–Beebe Art Department is proud to present the artworks of Richard Stephens during the month of February.  
 
Over the past 23 years, Richard Stephens has taught watercolor workshops across the United States and served as a juror for numerous watercolor competitions and exhibitions.
Stephens brings a 45-year background as a freelance commercial artist and graphic designer, with extensive experience in the advertising and marketing industry. His work, teaching methods, and watercolor techniques have been widely recognized and featured in leading art publications, including Watercolor Magic, SPLASH, Watercolor Artist, and the French magazine The Art of Watercolor.
In 2008, three of Stephens’ paintings were selected for Splash 10, a biennial publication by North Light Books that highlights top watercolor artists in America and their approaches to specific techniques and concepts. He later received the Grand Prize Award in the 2014 Daniel Smith Customer Art Competition.
Stephens’ achievements have continued to receive recognition at both the state and national levels. He was named Arkansas Individual Artist of the Year at the 2018 Governor’s Arts Awards. More recently, he earned the Bold Brush Online Competition’s Outstanding Watercolor award as a monthly winner in both 2023 and 2024 and received the Arkansas Arts Council Small Works on Paper Purchase Award in 2025.
The art exhibit is in the England Center Art Gallery. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The England Center Art Gallery is located at 201 North Orange Street in Beebe. The gallery presents works of art by students and featured artists throughout the academic year. ASU-Beebe is the only two-year college in central Arkansas that offers an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree. The AFA degree has an emphasis in vocal music or instrumental music, theater, graphic design, or creative arts enterprise. This degree is a comprehensive two-year curriculum designed specifically for transfer toward a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.
