The ASU-Beebe theatre department will present the student adaptation of “Bright Star” Nov. 6-9 in the Owen Center theater, located at 1102 West College Street on the Beebe campus.
Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 and Friday, Nov. 7; and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, with an alumni reception after the show; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Tickets are priced at $5 per person and can be purchased online at www.asub.edu/tickets or at the door. Doors will open 30 minutes before each showtime.
Nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “Bright Star” is set in the American South during the 1920s and 1940s, and follows Alice Murphy, a literary editor whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets a young soldier returning home from World War II.
“Bright Star” features an original bluegrass and folk-inspired score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Inspired by a true story, the musical celebrates the enduring power of love and the beauty of redemption through heartfelt storytelling and joyful music.
“We want to invite you to our fall show, ‘Bright Star,’” said Ryan Gibbons, assistant professor of communication and theatre. “This show will surprise some people. Written by the comedian Steve Martin, this is an epic tale told from the perspective of two separate time periods. Rousing music, love that never dies, this story has it all.”
The production is directed by Ryan Gibbons, Hope Hargrove, assistant professor of theatre/communications, and Estella Cordero, theatre and facilities technician, and features the talents of ASU-Beebe students both on stage and behind the scenes.
