ASU-Beebe Lecture-Concert Series to Present Emerald City Council Concert
Posted Date: 9/12/25

ASU-Beebe invites the community to a free concert featuring Emerald City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 23, as part of the ASU-Beebe Lecture-Concert Series and Family Week festivities. The event is free admission and open to the public.

There will be free food provided by Great Western Dining from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Centennial Bank Gymnasium and the concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Owen Center theater, located at 1102 West College Street on the Beebe campus.

Emerald City Council is an American progressive rock band, formed in 2021 out of a recording project produced by saxophonist/keyboardist Brent Bristow, who is also professor of music and director of the Symphonic Band at ASU-Beebe. The band also features vocalist Jake Livgren (nephew of Kansas’ Kerry Livgren), drummer Noah Hungate (son of Toto’s David Hungate) bassist Jeremy Nichols (Erin Coburn) and guitarist Seth Hankerson.

Since the group’s album “Motion Carries” debuted in January 2024, it has garnered outstanding rankings and acclaim in the progressive rock music world, including “#1 debut album of 2024” by The Prog Corner, “#9 album of 2024” by Prog Radio and “#1 U.S. Album" by Music in Widescreen. Readers of U.K. Prog Magazine voted Emerald City Council the #9 Best New Band/Artist of 2024.

“Motion Carries” is a testament to the power of collaboration. Multi-grammy and emmy-winning recording engineer Jamie Tate mixed and mastered the material at the Rukkus Room Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. German artist Thomas Ewerhard provided the cover artwork that perfectly captures the spirit of the music. For a taste of “Motion Carries,” visit emeraldcitycouncil.com.

Joining the band for this performance on guitar and keyboard is Garth Hjelte, founder of the music software company Chicken Systems, Inc. Hjelte has worked many prominent film composers such as Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, and notably mapped and programmed the keyboard setups for the last two tours of the legendary band Rush.

"We are thrilled to bring Emerald City Council to ASU-Beebe during Family Week as part of our Lecture-Concert Series,” said Andrea Cole, associate vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement and co-chair of the ASU-Beebe Lecture-Concert Series. “This is a wonderful opportunity for families and community members to come together for a fun evening of live music and great food."

The concert is presented by Arkansas Record & CD Exchange. Sponsors for the 2025-2026 Performing Arts Series are Eoff & Associates Realty, Inc., Stallion Transportation, Arkansas Radio.com, First Community Bank, First Electric Cooperative, and Edward Jones Debbie Elgen, financial advisor.
