What is an Advisor?

Advisors are individuals that help you plan your academic career. They guide you in choosing classes and direct you through the college process. Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester for assistance and guidance with degree planning, registration, and connecting to valuable resources on campus.

Who is my Advisor?

New and Returning Students:

Staff advisors in the Advising and Learning Center office will advise most new and returning students during the first semester. You can visit the New Student Advising & Registration page for more details on how to schedule an advising appointment.

Current Students:

Faculty advisor information can be found on your Banner Self-Service portal homepage, under the Advisor heading on the right. Students can send the assigned faculty academic advisor a secure message through the Vanguard Portal.

Every current student is assigned an academic advisor based on his/her degree program. Students should access Banner Self Service for the name of their academic advisor, which is located on the Student Profile section in Banner. It is important to establish this mentoring relationship early in your time at ASU-Beebe. If you are unable to find the name of your advisor, please contact the Advising and Learning Center for assistance.

The majority of new students will schedule an advising appointment with the Advising and Learning Center. Students will receive a phone call, email, or text message with instructions for how to schedule an appointment. Please visit the New Student Advising & Registration page for more details. Walk-ins are also welcome. Please note that some degree programs are only advised by a faculty advisor (Example: Agriculture Equipment Technology), and these students will not be advised by the Advising and Learning Center.

If you are dropping a course before the semester begins, you will need to access either Banner Self Service to unregister for the class(es) or contact your academic advisor.

You may adjust your schedule by adding or dropping courses at no charge during the open registration period.

To drop a class after open registration, you need to visit the Registrar Forms Page to complete the Individual Course Drop Request form. The course instructor must sign-off on the request for implementation. The Individual Course Drop form is available in Canvas for online courses. You may request a copy of the signed form from your advisor for your records.

Students needing to change their degree path or major, should contact their assigned advisor. A new advisor will be assigned based on the area of interest, and the advisor will assist the student with the process of changing a major. Changing a major can result in completed courses not being used towards the new degree plan. Students need to discuss this possibility with an advisor before changing majors.

Students that need to update or change an advisor will need to contact the previous advisor. Students may also contact the Advising and Learning Center for more details on the process of changing an advisor.

The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and the equitable treatment in the application of credits for the admissions and degree requirements. Course transferability is not guaranteed for courses listed in ACTS as "No Comparable Course." Additionally, courses with a "D" grade frequently do not transfer. Institutional policies may vary.

Check out the Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) website.

The Roger Phillips Transfer Policy Act of 2009 established a system for fully transferable credit hours among public institutions of higher education for degrees in Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Arts in Teaching. It requires all four-year public institutions of higher education to accept all hours completed and to admit a transfer student with junior status in a baccalaureate degree program. The Act also specifies transfer guidelines for each two-year public institution within fifty miles of the four-year institution.
