Posted Date: 4/24/23

Nathan Surles, a student at the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs campus, received the TRIO Student Support Services Hall of Fame Achiever recognition for 2022-2023.

Surles is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the Ecology Club, Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), and serves as a tutor for the Heber Springs learning center. He is an active participant in the TRIO Student Support Services on the Heber Springs campus and provides leadership and positive motivation to students and staff.

In addition, Surles was spotlighted in the Arkansas Association of Student Assistant Programs booklet given to the Arkansas representatives in Washington, D.C. this past March.

This summer, Surles will work in the Upward Bound program as a resident aid and mentor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Surles plans to pursue a degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.

TRIO programs are federally funded grant programs that provide support to first-generation, low-income or disabled students to aid their successful achievement of a college degree. Student Support Services is one of seven federal TRIO programs funded through the United States Department of Education. ASU-Beebe hosts four federal TRIO programs on two campuses. Both the Beebe and Heber Springs campuses have Student Support Services and Upward Bound programs.
