On March 14, 2023, ASU-Beebe Student Government Association President Zayd Kelley and Vice President Jasmine Rainey signed a joint proclamation recognizing March 21, 2023, as Single Parents Day at ASU-Beebe.
Kelley said, “According to a 2019 study from the Pew Research Center, of 130 countries and territories, the U.S. has the world's highest rate of children living in single-parent households, and almost a quarter of U.S. children under the age of 18 live with one parent and no other adults.”
The proclamation encourages the Vanguard community to recognize the essential role single parents play in the lives of their children and in society, demonstrating strength, resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
It also brings awareness to the added challenges single parents face as they pursue higher education, balancing academic demands with their parenting responsibilities, household duties and work.
The proclamation encourages the Vanguard community to recognize these challenges and honor and celebrate the contributions of single parents to the college and broader community.
