Arkansas State University-Beebe is proud to announce that its Pharmacy Technician Science Program and Janet McGregor Liles, director and advanced instructor of the Pharmacy Technician Science Program and director of allied health, have recently received awards from the American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP) Foundation.
The Pharmacy Technician Science Program was presented with the Pharmacy Technician Education and Training Program Achievement Award. This award honors one ASHP/ACPE-accredited pharmacy technician education and training program that demonstrates innovative methods for educating, training, and providing optimal opportunities for developing pharmacy technicians. This award is supported through donations to the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Technician Fund.
In addition, Liles received the ASHP Pharmacy Technician Excellence Award, which recognizes and honors pharmacy technicians who have made significant contributions to excellence in the role of pharmacy technicians, advancement of the pharmacy technician workforce, and advancement of pharmacy practice.
“Congratulations to our pharmacy technician program and Janet on receiving these awards,” said Dr. Joseph Scott, dean of the Division of Math and Science. “Janet is a multi-talented leader, not only in pharmacy technician science but across all areas of healthcare education.”
Liles oversees all aspects of the ASU-Beebe pharmacy technology program and as director of the allied health programs, she supports multiple health profession programs, such as emergency medicine, health information technology, veterinary technology, and medical laboratory technician training.
Liles has been a registered pharmacy technician since 1994, and she has held leadership positions in academia, industry, and clinical settings. She has spent decades supporting the pharmacy workforce by driving transformational changes in pharmacy technician education, training, and practice.
In addition, Liles has served as executive director, president, and vice president of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council and held advisory positions with ASU-Beebe and the Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists (AAHP). She holds a seat on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification Council, and she is a technician representative on the AAHP Board of Directors.
Liles began her professional career as operations manager for Dial Management Inc. of Jacksonville. She later served as lead pharmacy technician at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, director of assessment for ASU–Beebe’s information technology client services program, and director of operations for the Stanley and Turner Drug Company in Searcy.
Liles earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Arkansas and a master’s degree in health sciences from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. She is pursuing a doctorate in health sciences from Old Dominion University/Eastern Virginia Medical School.
“Janet has mentored numerous pre-pharmacy students, guiding them through the challenges and coursework required to become successful pharmacy students and, ultimately, pharmacists,” Scott said. “Janet is truly a cornerstone of healthcare education at our institution.”
