"Life as a Vanguard" series introduces Emmie Driskill, SGA Treasurer
Posted Date: 3/3/23

Emmie Driskill, a sophomore, serves as the Student Government Association treasurer, having been elected last spring.

So why did Driskill choose to attend ASU-Beebe? She said part of the reason was that her mother and her brother both attended college at ASU-Beebe. “My brother is my role model. He now works in cyber security,” said Driskill.

Driskill did not originally plan to join the Student Government Association. So, what changed? “The SGA offers a chance to be involved and make decisions on campus that directly affect students’ college experience,” said Driskill. As SGA treasurer, Driskill pledged to spend money wisely and use it toward what is most needed. She has also been involved in planning more activities for students.

Driskill graduated from Beebe High School, where she was involved in the band program playing the trumpet and percussion. She was also a part of the basketball and bowling teams. “While in high school, I thought about becoming a coach or a teacher after coaching athletics in my sophomore year,” said Driskill.

Driskill, a science and business major, plans to attend UCA after finishing her time at ASU-Beebe. Her favorite classes are college algebra and computer applications.

In her spare time, Driskill likes to hang out with her friends and enjoys various activities and card games. She has also worked as a coffee barista and has worked at the front desk of the residence hall.

Driskill said she has enjoyed her time at ASU-Beebe. “One of my passions is working as a leadership scholar, which is a program that helps with scholarships and leadership certifications,” said Driskill. An example of a leadership scholar project was last spring when the leaders coordinated for animal shelter and service dogs to be brought on campus during finals to help students with stress.

Her advice to future students is to complete homework after class to allow for time to relax in the evenings and on the weekends.
