England Center Art Gallery to Feature 2020 Arkansas Living Treasure Artist
Posted Date: 10/4/24

The ASU–Beebe Department of Art is proud to present Memento-Mori, the featured artworks of Michael Warrick. A reception for the artist will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the month of October.

“Memento-Mori is an exhibition of narrative and abstracted portraits that explore themes of transformation, angst, meditation, mentorship, identity, death, and memory as the key to understanding who we are and aspire to be,” Warrick said. “Each portrait is a compilation of images that builds a unique execution through its subtle assemblage of narrative images, natural textures and found objects.”

Warrick was the recipient of the 2020 Arkansas Living Treasure award by the Arkansas Arts Council and the Arkansas Department of Heritage for his contributions to art in Arkansas and beyond.

Warrick’s art has been displayed in numerous international collections, symposiums and exhibitions in China, South Korea and Northern Ireland, as well as public, corporate and private collections. He was also commissioned for many projects over the years and selected for an extensive list of solo exhibitions, including the Arkansas Art Center, Walton Art Gallery and the Windgate Art and Design Gallery.

Warrick earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in fine arts from Southern Illinois University. He began his teaching career in sculpture, design and ceramics at South Dakota State University, retiring professor emeritus at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.

The England Center Art Gallery is located at 201 North Orange Street in Beebe. The gallery presents works of art by students and featured artists throughout the academic year.
