Debbie Elgen has been named this year’s Arkansas State University-Beebe Outstanding Alumni award recipient for the Arkansas Community Colleges Conference.
Elgen graduated from ASU-Beebe in 2012 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech University. She began her career as a branch office administrator with Edward Jones in 2012 and transitioned to financial advisor for the Searcy office in 2019.
“Debbie is a respected business and community leader whose dedication and service have made a lasting impact across White County and beyond,” said Dr. Jennifer Methvin, chancellor at ASU-Beebe. “Through her leadership in business, involvement with the chamber, commitment to mentorship, and advocacy efforts, she has helped strengthen economic development and expand opportunities for professional growth throughout the region.”
While a student at ASU-Beebe, she received the prestigious Citizenship Award in 2012, the highest student honor awarded at ASU-Beebe, which recognizes leadership, academic excellence, service, and campus involvement. That same year, she also received ASU-Beebe’s Education and Social Sciences Division award and was listed in the 2012 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
“ASU-Beebe played a foundational role in shaping my personal and professional journey,” Elgen said. “The experiences, relationships, and opportunities I’ve gained at ASU-Beebe helped develop my passion for leadership, service, and community engagement.”
Elgen has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and philanthropy through her involvement with numerous civic and nonprofit organizations. She has served on the boards of the Searcy Chamber of Commerce, White County Community Foundation, White County Single Parent Scholarship, and the Imagine and Believe Foundation. Her dedication to the community and entrepreneurial leadership has been recognized through honors including the Searcy Chamber Small Business of the Year and Emerging Business of the Year.
Through these roles, Elgen has supported educational initiatives, scholarships, nonprofit organizations, workforce development, and community engagement efforts. She is known for giving back through volunteer service, advocacy, event participation, and financial support for organizations that strengthen opportunities for students and families.
“Debbie has demonstrated strong leadership and innovation throughout her professional career and community involvement. Her willingness to mentor, speak at events, and invest in future leaders, reflects her dedication to strengthening both her profession and her community,” said Andrea Cole, associate vice chancellor for institutional advancement.
Elgen’s leadership, service, and commitment to education continue to positively influence the community. She serves on the ASU-Beebe Board of Visitors and the ASU-Beebe Development Council and regularly supports and encourages students and emerging professionals through organizations such as Future Business Leaders of America, Educators Rising, the ASU-Beebe Business Club, and various chamber initiatives.
“On behalf of the Alumni Association, we are incredibly proud of Debbie and her outstanding leadership and service to the college and our community,” said Andy Hall, ASU-Beebe Alumni Association board president. “Her dedication is a wonderful example of the lasting impact community college education can have—not only on individual lives, but on the communities that we call home. Congratulations, Debbie, on this well-deserved recognition.”
ASU-Beebe will host a Gratitude Luncheon on November 17 to honor Debbie Elgen and to help establish an alumni scholarship to be awarded to a child, grandchild, spouse or dependent of an ASU-Beebe alumnus.
