The Arkansas Saxophone Quartet will play a concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16 at the ASU-Beebe Owen Center Theater on the Beebe campus. The Saxophone Quartet will open the college’s 2019-2020 Lecture-Concert Series of programs for the year. This will be a FREE event; however, tickets are required for seating management. Tickets are available at https://asub.ticketleap.com/
The ASU-Beebe concert coincides with the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet celebrating its 12th anniversary season. The members of the quartet are Dr. Matthew Taylor (University of Central Arkansas), soprano saxophone; Dr. Caroline Taylor (Ouachita Baptist University), alto saxophone; Dr. Brent Bristow (Arkansas State University-Beebe), tenor saxophone; and Dr. Jackie Lamar (University of Central Arkansas, retired), baritone saxophone.
The ensemble is equally adept at all styles of chamber music, ranging from transcriptions to avant-garde contemporary music. This season’s program includes works by Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel, Jean Absil, and Jonathan Leshnoff.
Across the many seasons, the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet has delivered performances at the North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences in Columbia, S.C.; Columbia, Mo; Huntsville, TX; Champaign-Urbana, IL; Lubbock, TX and Stillwater, OK. The group has also given multiple performances at the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, VA, and was featured at the Conference on Arts and Humanties in Honolulu, HI and the World Saxophone Congress in St. Andrews, Scotland.
