Upward Bound Students

The Upward Bound program operates continuously throughout the year and is divided into two components:

1. Academic Year

  • Participants receive instruction and guidance through tutoring, classes, and counseling.
  • Participants meet twice a month on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Participants meet twice a month on Thursdays from 3:30-6 p.m. for after-school tutoring.
  • Participants receive a stipend of $7.50 per meeting, as well as having their mileage paid.
  • Participants receive an additional $2.50 to their stipend for meeting academic contracts.

2. Summer

  • Students participate in a six week summer camp during the months of June and July. An educational/social trip is scheduled for the last week.
  • A college atmosphere is provided through instruction in academic courses, social activities, and personal and career counseling.
  • Participants enjoy a variety of activities including cultural events, recreational activities, and field trips.
  • During the summer following graduation from high school, students will enroll in two regular college classes paid for by Upward Bound.
  • All students will receive a $15 stipend each week.

The Upward Bound program pays participants' expenses while in the program, including room and board, admission fees, books, insurance and all costs for the trip, with the exception of souvenirs.
