Student Organizations at Searcy

Participation in campus life can be a significant part of a student's educational experience. Student organizations and clubs offer students valuable opportunities to learn and develop teamwork and leadership skills. Involvement in student organizations teaches skills transferable to the world of work and provides a network with faculty and staff advisors.

Research has shown that college students who get involved outside the classroom perform better academically and are usually more satisfied with their college experience...so do not wait any longer to investigate the opportunities available to you.

Skills USA-VICA

Skills USA-VICA is active in all area vocational technical schools. Membership in these clubs are open to students, former students, and other persons interested in the various career fields represented. The purpose of these Skills USA-VICA clubs is to help the student develop social and leadership skills. The club members and advisors will conduct activities that enhance the development of these skills. The activities may include events between vocational technical schools and between students, such as parliamentary procedure contests between schools, trouble-shooting contest for students from various programs, etc.

Each club elects officers from its membership to serve as follows: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Parliamentarian.

ALPNA

Practical Nursing Students will belong to the Arkansas Licensed Practical Nursing Association (ALPNA). This is a professional nursing organization that is an integral part of the instructional program that provides occupational skills as well as leadership skills There will be a convention in the fall and in the spring and attendance is required. The class will elect officers who will direct activities during the school year. Activities include fundraisers, community service, and attending professional meetings. The students are assisted in developing their skills and ability that will lead to successful employment in the nursing profession.

Students' Voice

Students' Voice was formed to act as a council body for the students on campus. The purpose of the council is to give the student body the opportunity to express student opinions and make suggestions in matters concerning the school and assist with planning student activities. This organization assists with representing the student body during planned events such as the Open House. The Students' Voice is responsible for nominating students that meet the criteria for the student of the year. An independent committee that changes each year selects the student from the nominations. That student is given the Student of the Year award at graduation. Each department chooses a student to be the voting representative. Every department representative should attend and vote on motions during official meetings. All students enrolled in a credit program may attend and participate in the discussion, but only those voting representatives may vote.

Out of the voting representatives the council members elect the following: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Reporter.

National Vocational-Technical Honor Society (NVTHS)

The National Vocational-Technical Honor Society (NVTHS) is a non-profit honor organization for students enrolled in occupational, vocational-technical programs. The purpose is to assist students to promote service, leadership, honesty, career development, and skilled workmanship; to reward student achievement; to encourage and assist student educational and career goal setting to promote a stronger linkage between local vocational-technical institutions, business and industry; to promote the image of vocational-technical education in America. Candidates for NVTHS are students who meet the full-time criteria, have maintained a 3.0 grade point average, have good character, good mentality, creditable achievement, exhibit leadership, and who plan to pursue a career in their field of vocational-technical study. All candidates for membership in NVTHS must be approved to become members.
