Can anyone get a private room?
Private, or single, rooms are assigned by deposit date with returning students receiving priority. Single rooms can only be assigned when space is available. Students can request particular roommates and every effort will be made to honor these requests. Residents may change room assignments but only with approval from the Residence Hall Director.
Is smoking allowed in the building?
No. ASU-Beebe is a tobacco-free environment, including forms of smokeless tobacco. The use of tobacco is only allowed at least 20 feet from the entrance of buildings. Incense and candles are also not allowed in the residence halls. These items violate fire safety regulations and the scent can be annoying to others in the residence hall community.
Is there a place to cook?
Residents are not allowed to cook in their rooms for several reasons:
- Lack of ventilation
- Fire regulations
- Possible damage to property
- Pest problems
- There are microwaves on each floor that are available for limited cooking needs for the residents.
Will I have my own bathroom?
The restroom facilities are community restrooms. The showers are separate and private within the restroom.
Can I decorate my room?
You will be encouraged to make your room as comfortable as you like. You are welcome to bring items to give your room the personal touches that will make you feel more at home. Please remember that you will most likely be sharing a room with another person. You will want to make certain that the things you choose to bring to your room will not interfere with the other persons living environment.
Do I have to buy the meal plan?
The meal plan is required for students living in the residence hall. The meal plan is a 15-meal per week plan. The University Café is open during the week from 7 am – 7 pm and has set aside the following hours for residence hall students:
Monday – Friday
Breakfast - 7 am – 9 am
Lunch - 11 am – 1:30 pm
Dinner - 5 pm – 6:30
pm
If there is a class conflict with these dining hours, arrangements can be made with the food service manager on an individual basis.
Can I bring my pet?
Pets are not allowed in the residence hall because of the community environment and the requirement of health regulations.
Is there a curfew?
Residents are considered adults and are therefore responsible for their own behavior. The lobby doors are locked at 11 pm, but residents are issued a key for their own use. There are study hours set aside from 8 pm to 7:30 am. During this time, the residents are expected to respect the others in the community who may be studying.
Are the residence halls co-ed?
The residence halls are arranged in a community living environment and are therefore not conducive to co-educational living. Visitation is allowed on Monday – Thursday from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Is there housing available for non-traditional students?
The university does not provide any type of housing for married students or students with children. However, there is not an age limit for students interested in the traditional residence hall experience.
Is there housing available in the summer?
No, the residence halls are closed during the summer months.
What is an RA?
A Resident Advisor (RA) is a student para-professional that works in the residence hall. The RA will serve as a resource for the students on their floor and will provide support from the university to the students. In addition to the RA’s, there is a Hall Director in each residence hall. The Hall Director serves as the university supervisor for the residence halls and is also a resource for students.
Is there any type of computer lab?
Each residence hall has a computer room that is available for residents at any time. These computers are intended primarily for educational uses. There is also a computer facility located in the Learning Center on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.
What kind of co-curricular activities are there?
There are many opportunities for students to become involved on the ASU-Beebe campus.
Student organizations, concerts and coffeehouses are just a few of the ways that ASU-Beebe provides students with a memorable college experience.
Can I have a phone in my room?
Yes, each room is equipped with a phone line and includes local service. A calling card must be used to place long distance calls.
