Career Exploration

Planning your career is like finding the missing piece to a puzzle. The missing piece could possibly be knowing your interests, values, and skills. It might be learning about the world of work, such as different types of jobs, employers, and industries. The missing piece might be making a decision based on what fits you and also what is available. Inevitably, a good fit equals career satisfaction.

Assessment - There are many tools available to help you learn more about your interests, values, and preferences and how they relate to the world of work. There is no one test that could possibly indicate what career is right for you. Ultimately, the decision is yours. However, assessment instruments can be useful in the career decision-making process.

Career Counseling - Counseling staff are available if you would like assistance with your career exploration. To make an appointment, call 501-882-4429 or come by the Counseling Center on the 2nd floor of the Student Center.

Career/Life Planning Seminar

UNIV 1011 Career/Life Planning is more than just a course for choosing an occupation or a major. It also includes assessing one's interests, values, and capabilities; becoming aware of opportunities in the world of work; learning the necessary employability skills to obtain and keep a job once the initial choice has been made; and gaining the skills to develop, re-evaluate, and implement long-term career/life plans. The basic purpose of this course is to provide an opportunity for students to develop in all areas of career/life planning, whether undecided or simply needing affirmation. Career development is a continuous process throughout the life span. The course is offered in the spring semester.
