Disability Services focuses on the diverse needs for persons with disabilities to recognize and achieve their educational goals. The university is committed to the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and as amended in 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to provide access and equal opportunity for all qualified individuals with disabilities.
Goal
To promote independence, build skills, provide awareness and encourage achievement of educational goals for students with disabilities.
Programs
Disability Services provides reasonable academic and nonacademic accommodations: such as classroom and testing accommodations.
Alternative Format for educational materials: such as Braille, large print or audio format.
Support personnel: such as interpreters, readers, writers and note-takers.
Assistive technology: adaptive hardware and software are provided for educational access.
Referrals to and liaison with campus and community resources: Arkansas Rehabilitation Services; Division of Services for the Blind; Department of Human Services.
Consultation: Disability Services staff collaborates with faculty and staff regarding accommodations and campus facilities access.
Advocacy and study skills guidance: Techniques for time management and study skills are provided by disability services staff.
