Personal Counseling Mission: "Supporting the intellectual and emotional development of students and assisting them in accomplishing personal and academic goals."
Counseling services are available in the Student Success Center during normal business hours, which are 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday - Tuesday and 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Wednesday - Friday. Please call 501-882-8906 to schedule an appointment.
The Student Success Center at Arkansas State University-Beebe is committed to helping you benefit as much as possible from your experience here at ASU-Beebe. This support may include helping you to perform better academically, to cope with your emotions, or to be more effective in your relationships with others. Students visit counseling services for a variety of reasons such as problems adjusting to college, stress management, depression and other topics.
Purposes of Counseling Services
1. To provide a safe environment that is accessible and respectful of a diversity of issues.
2. To be proactive in responding to needs, interests, and concerns of a diverse student community through unconditional support and advocacy for student concerns.
3. To offer a variety of programs to assist students in maximizing their educational and social experiences at the University.
4. To provide services that encourages the acquisition of skills to become proactive, socially responsible and accountable individuals.
5. To further the development of responsibility for lifelong health and safety, personally and globally.
6. To act as consultants and resources in promoting the holistic development of students.
Counseling Staff
The Student Success Center employs one full-time personal counselor and three full-time academic counselors who are responsible for providing services that are designed to assist you in meeting your educational and career goals. Counseling services include individual personal and career counseling for students, outreach programming, crisis intervention and consultation for faculty and staff.
Services are available to currently enrolled students who are taking classes on any of our campuses. Students needing mental health counseling which are outside of the scope of the services offered will be referred to appropriate community resources.

Services Offered
Academic and Personal Counseling
Short-term academic, career, and personal counseling is offered to students. Academic advisors or the personal counselor will work with a student for up to three individual sessions to address academic concerns. If after three meetings the student's concern is not resolved, the student will be referred to the most appropriate community resource available. Issues/concerns non-academic in nature will be referred out to local agencies better prepared to adequately address the student's needs.
Crisis Intervention
Students who are in crisis or who are dealing with trauma are encouraged to contact the Student Success Center during normal business hours, Monday-Tuesday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday -- Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The counselor is not on-call and there are no after hour services.
In the event of a life threatening emergency, dial 911. Otherwise contact Campus Police (882-8851). After hours, crisis and emergency situations are dealt with according to the Emergency Procedures Handbook.
Outreach Programming
The Student Success Center staff is available for outreach presentations on various topics to students and/or faculty groups that can be tailored to address specific needs. Furthermore, the Center encourages programming partnerships and collaborations with all campus constituencies. Please contact the Center if you would like a presentation or workshop for your class or student organization.
Student Learning Outcomes
As a result of counseling services, students should be able to articulate satisfaction with the following outcomes:

1. Students will set realistic personal and/or academic goals;

Confidentiality
The Student Success Center adheres to the strictest ethical standards with confidientiality. Consultations with students are limited to private offices. Discussions regarding student issues only occur between Student Success Center staff, when necessary and appropriate to help the student, professional counseling agencies with a legitimate interest, and/or appropriate University personnel, when necessary and appropriate to help the student.
Personal counseling records are kept separate from academic, disciplinary and medical records to ensure student's privacy and confidentiality.
All aspects of a student's participation in counseling in the Student Success Center, including the scheduling of appointments and contents of counseling sessions, are confidential. No information is released without the knowledge and written consent of the student except for those rare instances where staff are required by law or by court order to reveal particular information.
Professional and Ethical Guidelines
Counseling Services at Arkansas State University-Beebe are a part of the Student Success Center which is a part of the Division of Student Services. Counseling Services adhere to the professional standards and ethical guidelines as required by the American Psychological Association (APA), American Counseling Association (ACA), and American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Employees are expected to pursue their professional responsibilities within the framework of the laws of the State of Arkansas.
