Welcome to Academic Advising for Undecided Students

Academic advising in the Student Success Center is a shared responsibility between the student and the advisor. The purpose of advising is to assist undecided students with exploring career options, declaring a major and developing an educational plan that is consistent with their personal, professional and lifelong goals.

Students who are completely new to the Student Success Center should make an appointment for a group advising session. During group advising, students learn about their Advising and Career Portfolio, the advising process, how to read and follow their degree plan, college success strategies and get to build their first semester schedule of classes.

The academic advising resources to the left of this page are designed for undecided students as they work with their advisor during their first semester.

All currently undecided students are assigned to an academic advisor according to their last name. Students should meet with their respective advisor regularly to complete their Advising and Career Portfolio.

Please contact the Student Success Center at 501-882-8906 with any questions or to make an appointment.

Advising and Career Portfolio

All undecided students receiving academic advising services through the Student Success Center are required to complete an Advising and Career Portfolio during their first semester of enrollment.

As part of this portfolio, students are expected to complete assessments, meet regularly with their academic advisor to discuss the results and are required to participate in a "Four Steps to Choosing a Major" workshop.

This portfolio will include both advising and career required components:

Advising Resources

  • Advising Syllabus
  • Associate of Arts Degree Plan
  • Student Success Plan
  • Personal Advising Notes
