The Arkansas State University-Beebe Concert Series, sponsored by Centennial Bank, will present Duo Avanzando on Monday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Owen Center Theater.
David Carter, principal clarinetist of the Tulsa Symphony, and Brazilian percussionist Richard A. Coelho de Souza will perform a unique, multicultural program of chamber music.
Carter and Coelho de Souza began performing together in 2006 at a Latin music festival in Oklahoma, and formed Duo Avanzando in 2008 to explore repertoire for clarinet and percussion. Since then they have performed and presented master classes in the United States, Brazil, and Puerto Rico, and released the CD “Projecting Back” in 2011.
Duo Avanzando performances have included recitals at Henderson State University, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, and the University of Albany for the Boricua Rhythms festival.
Seating for the concert is unreserved and on a first-come basis. The theater will open 30 minutes prior to curtain call. Tickets will be on sale one hour before show time at the door; however, interested persons are advised to arrive early. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors, students, military and educators.
The Owen Center Theater is located at 910 Pecan Street in Beebe. For more information, call Concert Series coordinator Dr. Brent Bristow at (501) 882-4474, or visit the ASU-Beebe website at www.asub.edu.
