Life as a Vanguard Myles Meldrum

Myles is a sophomore at ASU-Beebe majoring in Criminal Justice.

December 4, 2019

Growing up, Myles enjoyed watching law enforcement reality shows, such as Cops. He ultimately chose law enforcement after studying forensics and fingerprinting and taking vocational classes in criminal justice in high school. Myles hopes to lead by example and show the community that law enforcement is not the enemy; they are problem solvers and peacekeepers.

Myles is from Little Rock and received two high school diplomas from both Arkansas and California concurrently through home schooling and attending online school. He chose ASU-Beebe because of the option to live on-campus while pursuing a degree. One of his favorite classes has been Oral Communications, and he says of his experience here that he appreciates the open and accepting environment at ASU-Beebe.

During high school, Myles was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout by completing more than 300 hours of work on his final project.

For his Eagle Scout project, he used reclaimed lumber to build five low bench/picnic tables and five water cooler stands for Camp Mitchell at Petit Jean Mountain. When asked if he had a quote that has guided him, he answered the Boy Scout motto “Be Prepared.”

In his free time, Myles enjoys staying active by pole-vaulting, swimming, running track, and playing Ultimate Tag Frisbee. He also enjoys skeet shooting and duck hunting.

Upon graduation, Myles plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and would eventually like to work as a wildlife officer.
