Dr. Jason S. Goodner, dean of Arts and Humanities at ASU-Beebe, on May 31, 2018, proudly announced the digital release of the inaugural issue of Uncharted, the institution’s newly created literary and art magazine.
“The vision and purpose of Uncharted is to provide our students an avenue to showcase their talents while at the same time promoting the university,” Goodner said. “Uncharted serves as a symbol of the quality learning experiences students encounter at ASU-Beebe.”
“This 2018 volume of Uncharted not only explores new ground as the inaugural edition of the magazine, it also marks the first ever literary and art publication at Arkansas State University – Beebe,” said Dr. Jodi Whitehurst, assistant professor of English and Uncharted program advisor. “The scope and character of the publication, developed by the student writers and artists, reflects the breadth and depth of the diverse student population at ASU-Beebe.”
“Providing our students the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful writers is a tenant that drives our division,” said Suzanne Lindsey, assistant professor of English. “Providing our students the opportunity to be published in a quality literary text is very special.”
Thomas Fernandez, instructor of Art and Graphic Design, noted “Volume I is the culmination of a great deal of hard work by our students. I am proud to be a part of their monumental achievement.”
In supporting the development of Uncharted, ASU-Beebe established a new student organization called the ASUB Publishing Studio where students interested in all facets of writing and creative design can mold and shape future volumes of the magazine.
Currently, Uncharted is available digitally. For more information about ASU-Beebe’s literary and art magazine, visit the Uncharted webpage.
In addition, friend of the institution, Mrs. Irina Fernandez, provided expert counsel on digital design and layout in the development of the publication .
