Executive Summary

 

The Information Technology Services (ITS) department at Arkansas State University-Beebe provides a list of all active projects for each Academic year (AY). In an effort to increase efficiency and foster transparency, all ITS projects are organized into one of fifteen categories; a detailed description of each, including how each project links to and supports the fulfillment of ASU-Beebe’s Strategic Goals, is provided below.

Description: The End User Support department within Information Technology Services assists the campus community through the helpdesk, training, communications and computer services.

(SG #1) Strong from the Start – This project supports the fulfillment of Strong from the Start by providing support services that are (1) vital to fulfilling educational endeavors for the student population, and (2) necessary for the fulfillment of various position-related duties of faculty and staff.

Description: Information Technology Services works with the internal campus community to provide end user training for various software and enterprise systems.

Description: The ITS Communications Plan outlines the service communication to the internal ASUB Community.  The ITS Service Guidance Document is an internal document explaining the purpose of the ITS service and the specific roles and responsibilities of each ITS staff member.  This is a complimentary document to the quick list.

Strategic Goal Detail:

 (SG #1) Strong from the Start – This project supports Strong from the Start by providing ITS-related information and opportunities for ITS support to all students, faculty, and staff.

(SG #2) P32B1 – This project supports P32B1 through the application of standardized policies, practices, and procedures relating to the IT Communication plan itself and through the various IT information and support services outlined and described within it   

(SG #3) ASUBe Connected – This project supports ASUBe Connected by providing information relating to ITS events to students, faculty, and community partners.

Description: Inventory of computer, router, switch, projector, Smart Board, Sympodium, Zoom cart, and printer assets by Information Technology Services staff at all ASU-Beebe campuses (Beebe, Searcy, Heber Springs, and LRAFB).

Supporting Strategic Goal(s): (SG #2) P32B1 (Policies, Practices, and Procedures to be One College)

(SG #2) P32B1– This project supports P32B1 through the practice of resource management based in standardized policies, practices, and procedures.

Description: Improve virtual computing environments like VDI by adding Desktop as a Service (DaaS) and converging all of the various disconnected components into one more easily managed system with reduced maintenance and cost.

(SG #2) P32B1 – This project supports P32B1 through application of policies, procedures, and practices that unify and streamline virtual computing components, as well as through fiscally responsible practices that reduce overall operational costs.

Description: Improve backup and recovery of servers and data stores. Create an automated system of backups that maintains backup’s onsite and for quick recovery and offsite for disaster tolerance. Participate in an ASU System disaster recovery program that will allow the various ASU sites to provide resources to each other for disaster prevention and recovery.

(SG #2) P32B1 – This project supports P32B1 by providing policies, practices, and procedures that provide a unified, systematic means by which the institution can recover and restore data after disaster while also aiding in preventative measures.

Description: Reduce networking, data storage, and server costs to the organization.

Description: Improve and update server technology to insure network and data environment stability and sustainability.

Strategic Goal Detail:

 

This project supports each strategic goal similarly by providing a stable network and data environment allowing for:

  1. (SG #1) Strong from the Start - Access to information and support services by students, faculty, and staff.
  2. (SG #2) P32B1 - The resources needed to offer professional development opportunities and to assist in cultivating a culture of financial investment.
  3. (SG #3) - Resources necessary to assist in preparing students to enter and compete in the economy as well as the resources required to connect with workforce, industry, and community partners.

Description: Improve network base speed and reliability by upgrading obsolete and/or malfunctioning equipment.

Supports Strategic Goal(s): (SG #1) Strong from the Start, (SG #2) P32B1, (SG #3) ASUBe Connected

Strategic Goal Detail:

 

Like the Physical Server Environment Improvement Project and the Cybersecurity Improvement Project, this project supports each strategic goal similarly by providing a stable network and data environment allowing for:

  1. (SG #1) Strong from the Start - Access to information and support services by students, faculty, and staff
  2. (SG #2) P32B1 - The resources needed to offer professional development opportunities and to assist in cultivating a culture of financial investment
  3. (SG #3) Resources necessary to assist in preparing students to enter and compete in the economy as well as the resources required to connect with workforce, industry, and community partners.

Description: Projects that relate to the maintenance of the ASU-B website and other web-based services utilized by the institution.

Supports Strategic Goal(s): (SG #1) Strong from the Start, (SG #2) P32B1, (SG #3) ASUBe Connected

Strategic Goal Detail:

 

(SG #1) Strong from the Start – This project supports Strong from the Start by providing maintenance and support of the ASU-B website, allowing students, faculty, and staff access to all institutional information and support services.

 

(SG #2) P32B1 – This project supports P32B1 through maintenance of the ASU-B website by the following means: (1) providing a platform that advertises the unique offerings of each campus while simultaneously outlining unifying policies, procedures, and practices and (2) providing an avenue to advertise the Office of Institutional Advancement and opportunities afforded through that office to donate to the institution.

 

(SG #3) ASUBe Connected – This project supports ASUBe Connected through advertisement of various institutional events (for students and community members) as well as opportunities for students to engage in educational activities in the local community.

Description: All projects relating to the utilization and maintenance of POISE.

Strategic Goal Detail:

 

(SG #2) P32B1 - This project supports P32B1 by providing maintenance of POISE, which is the primary support for the following Administrative Offices: Finance, Purchasing, Payroll, and Human Resources. Support of these offices, and the specific policies, practices, procedures contained therein, are crucial for the day-to-day functionality of the institution.

Description: All projects relating to the maintenance and utilization of CNS (Citrix, web, or portal).

Strategic Goal Detail:

(SG #1) Strong from the Start – This project supports Strong from the Start by providing maintenance of CNS which serves as the primary administrative support for the following Administrative and Student Services Offices: Institutional Research, Student Accounting, Registrar, Housing, Financial Aid, and Admissions. Through support of CNS, students have reliable access to information and support services critical to academic success and staff and faculty can perform with exceptional administrative functionality using data-informed decision-making processes.

 

(SG #2) P32B1This project supports P32B1 by providing maintenance of CNS through standardized practices, policies, and procedures. Additionally, the Administrative Office of Institutional Advancement is supported by CNS; this office is critical in the process of growing the institutions endowment and other resources.

Services Offered

ASUB Adult Ed offers a variety of services and trainings to better prepare the community for the workforce.

Workforce Education

These short-term classes are usually offered at night, weekends, or online and are designed to enhance personal or professional skills. 

Community Education

The Continuing Education/Workforce Development Department at ASU-Beebe sponsors numerous non-credit classes that are designed to meet the needs of the general public and business workforce.

Advanced Programs

Through a partnership between A-State and ASUB, students may earn baccalaureate degrees from Arkansas State University by taking coursework at the Degree Center on the Beebe campus.
