The Multi-Skills Technology program at Arkansas State University-Beebe at Searcy is currently enrolling students for the spring semester, which begins January 17, 2017.
The Multi-Skills Technology program enables students to graduate high school, enter the workforce, or use toward certification or a college degree.
Designed to prepare students for the careers requiring general technical skills, students enrolled in the Multi-Skills Technology program are provided instruction in electrical and mechanical technologies, hydraulics, metal working, and materials processing.
The coursework has ten stations of learning, which include AC and DC electrical circuits, electrical controls and wiring, drafting and reading prints, quality control measurements, hand tool identification and usage, hydraulic and pneumatic power, mechanical power, welding and cutting metals, lathes, and mills.
Multi-Skills industry partners include Remington Arms Company in Lonoke, Saint Jean Industries, Inc. in Heber Springs, Defiance Metal Products in Heber Springs, and Bryce Industries in Searcy. Industry partners will pay completers that they hire approximately $12 to $16 per hour.
This program, which is being funded through a grant awarded to the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services by the U.S. Department of Labor, targets dislocated workers and long-term unemployed individuals, including eligible underserved and minority populations. Tuition will be paid in full for some unemployed, qualified applicants.
