ASU-Beebe: Cleburne County Cares Offers Technical Scholarships
Cleburne County Cares, referred to as Cares, has partnered with Arkansas State University-Beebe at Heber Springs to make scholarships available to students pursuing technical certification on any ASU-Beebe campus. The scholarship is available for the spring semester, which begins January 17.
The $1,000 Cleburne County Cares Scholarship will be awarded each semester to qualifying students in a vocational technical training program. The purpose of the scholarship is ‘to develop resources at the local level to enable individuals to gain marketable skills and achieve self-sufficiency through education.’
Cares has identified a need in the Cleburne County area for employees with education and skills in technology to match the employment opportunities. The goal is to strengthen the employability of Cleburne County residents.
The scholarship is available to graduates of high school or individuals who have earned a General Educational Development (GED) diploma. Additionally, the applicant must be a resident of Cleburne County for at least one year.
Students may apply for the scholarship anytime during the year. The Cleburne County Cares Scholarship is renewable each semester based on a satisfactory grade point average.
Scholarship applications are available in the Registrar’s Office at the Heber Springs campus, located at 101 River Crest in Heber Springs. Applications are also available at the Cleburne County Cares office, which is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 2016 25B North in Heber Springs.
Cleburne County Cares is a non-profit organization, consisting of more than 100 volunteers, dedicated to ‘improving the quality of life for the people of Cleburne County.’ Executive Director Bobby Hargis stated, “This scholarship is just one of the numerous ways ‘Cares’ has helped the residents of Cleburne County over the past 30 years. We are proud to have served over 200,000 clients since we began operation.”
“ASU-Beebe is excited to work with the Cleburne County Cares organization in making educational opportunities more affordable for students,” said Dr. Carol Johnson, associate vice chancellor of Development and Major Gifts.
