The Arkansas State University-Beebe Concert Series, sponsored by Centennial Bank, will present the Chris Hemingway Quintet on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.in the Owen Center Theater.
Originally from Florence, SC., Chris Hemingway studied with tenor saxophonist James Houlik at the North Carolina School of the Arts. He now lives in Pittsburgh, where at age 21, he became the featured saxophone soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony. When he was a sophomore at Duquesne University, Hemingway won the prestigious concerto competition.
Hemingway often performs with the Al Dowe Quintet, the New Century Saxophone Quartet, Azucar Pittsburgh’s Premier salsa band, the Roger Humphries Big Band, and with New York City jazz trumpeter Sean Jones. He describes his freelance saxophone style as a mix of classical and jazz, and recently released his first solo recording.
Seating for the concert is unreserved and on a first-come basis. The theater will open 30 minutes prior to curtain call. Tickets will be on sale one hour before show time at the door; however, interested persons are advised to arrive early. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors, students, military and educators.
