The minimum requirements are a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Math, Science, English or Education plus two years related experience and/or training. Responsibilities include supervising, interviewing, hiring and training employees as well as planning, assigning and directing work. This position requires the Academic Coordinator to be able to work Saturdays and Thursday evenings during the academic year and to reside on the ASU-Beebe campus with the students for the six weeks summer program. Also, required are effective written and oral communications skills along with a valid Arkansas Driver’s License. Teaching experience and/or curriculum design as well as computer skills are preferred.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Responsible for all academic related activities of the Upward Bound grant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans a quality academic program to ensure student achievement. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 50% of the time.
2. Provides academic counseling to students and assists students with academic planning for graduatoin. This duty is performed Monthly, about 5% of the time.
3. Develops IEP's, monitors student's changes, and makes changes where necessary. This duty is performed Weekly, about 10% of the time.
4. Conducts recruitment, interviews and selection of new students with the Director. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 5% of the time.
5. Plans social and cultureal enrichment activites for students during both the academic and summer programs. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 2% of the time.
6. Schedules school visits during the academic year to assist students with problems and concerns. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 1% of the time.
7. Maintains weekly contact with each student through regularly scheduled activities, weekly newsletters, and follow up phone calls. This duty is performed Weekly, about 5% of the time.
8. With Director approval, schedules courses, completes individual student schedules, and oversees instructio. This duty is performed Weekly, about 5% of the time.
9. Tracks student records in norder to ensure that all students have the required testing and documentation. This duty is performed Weekly, about 1% of the time.
10. Monitors test scores to determine additional educational support necessary. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 1% of the time.
11. Arranges all college campus visits. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 2% of the time.
12. Teachers college prep classes to seniors and conducts individual sessions with seniors to finalize plans and prepare for post secondary education. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 5% of the time.
13. Assist with applications, financial aid, and scholarships. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 1% of the time.
14. Plans and conducts seminars, workshops, parent council, and orientations for parents. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 2% of the time.
15. With Director, interviews, hires, and supervises teachers and tutors. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 3% of the time.
16. Other duties as assigned or become necessary. This duty is performed Irregularly, about 2% of the time.
17. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
