Applying for Aid

How do I apply for financial aid?
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need to use the ASU-Jonesboro school code: 001090. The FAFSA is the application for federal grants as well as student loans.
How many Jonesboro classes do I need to take to qualify for aid through ASU-Jonesboro?
You need to take at least one Jonesboro class to qualify for Pell grant. You need 6 Jonesboro hours to qualify for loans.
I’m also taking classes at ASU-Beebe. Can those hours count for Pell grant purposes?
Yes. We can include the hours you are taking at ASU-Beebe. You must be seeking a degree from ASU and have at least 60 credit hours. Students seeking an AASN degree are not held to the 60 hour requirement. If you have less than 60 hours, you will need to seek financial aid through ASU-Beebe’s Financial Aid Office located in State Hall.
In order to count these hours, you must send a copy of your ASU-Beebe schedule to Jessica.
What if I am not eligible for aid at ASU-Jonesboro?
You can apply for an alternative student loan (sometimes called a private student loan) through the bank of your choice.
How often do I need to complete a FAFSA?
Once a year, preferably as soon as you file your taxes, but always use February 15 as a target date.
Why haven’t I heard anything about my financial aid?
Please allow about a month from the time you fill out your FAFSA before you receive other paperwork needed by ASU Jonesboro.

Excess Aid

How does financial aid pay my bill?
Your money is first sent to ASU-Jonesboro where it is applied to your tuition and fees. Any excess aid is sent to ASU-Beebe where it is applied to your tuition, fees, and book charges. If there is aid left after both bills are paid, the ASU-Beebe Business Office cuts you a check for the excess aid amount.
If I do not owe money to ASU-Beebe, does my money still have to go through them?
Yes. Money for all dually enrolled and degree center students must be sent to the two-year institution.
Can I have my excess aid directly deposited into my bank account?
No. Because most dually enrolled and degree center students owe a portion of their financial aid to ASU-Beebe, the direct deposit option is not available.
Will my excess aid check be mailed to me?
Not usually. If you would like ASU-Beebe to mail your check to you, please call them at 501-882-8250 to see if this can be arranged.
Where do I pick up my excess aid check?
At the Cashier’s Window in State Hall. You will need a valid driver’s license or student ID.
Why isn’t there a check for me?
#1 If you completed paperwork less than two months ago, your aid may not have had time to be processed.
#2 If this is your first time to receive aid as an ASU-Jonesboro student and you have not completed the Stafford Loan Entrance Interview at http://finaid.astate.edu/entrance.shtml and the Master Promissory Note at https://opennet.salliemae.com, your loan money will not be available.
What is the “Beebe Aid” listed in the Charges column of my Account Summary on ASU’s Banner Self Serivce?
This is not a charge. It is the amount of money wired from ASU-Jonesboro to ASU-Beebe. You should wait at least two business days after the wire date before you look for a check at the Cashier’s Window.

Book Charging

How do I buy books if my check is not ready?
If your financial aid has been processed and you have at least an $800 award, you may be eligible to charge books at the Jonesboro bookstore. You can typically charge books beginning the week before classes begin and through the second day of classes.
If you wish to charge books at ASU-Beebe’s Bookstore, you must present them with a copy of your 08-09 award and 08-09 account summary that you obtain by logging on to ASU’s Banner Self Service. These documents prove if you have enough excess aid to cover books. The amount you spend will be added to your ASU-Beebe bill. You can typically charge books beginning the week before classes begin and through the second day of classes.
