Dr. Jake Marquess (Dr. M) grew up in Spokane, Washington before moving to Mississippi in 2004 to study fire ant communication at Ole Miss. In 2012, he moved to Arkansas to teach Intro Biology, Zoology, and Anatomy and Physiology at Arkansas State University-Beebe. His research interests include animal communication, insect ecology, and invertebrate taxonomy.
Dr. M has a passion for bringing the natural world to kids of all ages. At ASUB, he is a faculty mentor to the Ecology Club and is committed to fostering an environment supportive to student researchers. Currently, he is developing interactive natural science activities for local summer camps and after-school programs.
In his free time, Dr. M enjoys insect collecting, hiking, morning coffee, and Lego building with his two sons.
