Because my parents had three children in college at the same time, I chose UCA in Conway, a college that was affordable and close to home. I began my college years as a science major, particularly enjoying my studies in life sciences. At that time, once the tuition for 12 hours was paid, all other classes were free! My schedule always included at least one math class, band or piano, and a fun PE class like tennis, ballroom dance, or golf. I earned enough hours to double major in Math and Science with a minor in interdisciplinary studies from the Honors College and still graduated in four years.
My Master’s of Science in mathematics is from the University of Arkansas. After graduation, I began work in the actuarial department of a large insurance company. It was a great job that combined my love of mathematics and statistics with real-world applications in a business. The work was exciting and challenging and I loved it!
Our priorities in life change over time. We started our family with not one child but two. Twins changed the way we thought about the balance between work and family. My need to be closer to them is the main reason that I began teaching at ASU-Beebe. I count myself lucky to have found work here that is both satisfying and challenging. Sharing my enjoyment of mathematics and statistics with students makes coming to work every day a pleasure.
