I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UCA in 1989. After UCA, and before I went to graduate school, I worked as a Respiratory Therapy Tech at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and in Hematology/Oncology Research at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital – both in Little Rock, Arkansas.
In 1990, I enrolled in a graduate program in Botany at Oklahoma in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Go Cowboys! I studied plant ecology, especially the effects of fire on prairies, conducted plant sampling for The Nature Conservancy and Sutton Avian Research Center, and helped ground-truth satellite data in prairie ecosystems. I especially enjoy working with grasses (Poaceae) and composites (Asteraceae).
I taught at Hendrix College and the University of Central Arkansas before joining Arkansas State University-Beebe. I teach a wide variety of biology courses as well as a number of chemistry and physical science courses.
My hobbies include gardening, reading, hiking, crocheting, and working on the family farm and pecan orchard.
