Assistant Professor / Director of Medical Laboratory Technology
Jimmy L. Boyd received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and two master’s degrees from Mississippi College.
Jimmy Boyd is Assistant Professor/Program Director of the Medical Laboratory Technology program and has been with ASU-Beebe since December 2003. Boyd was tenured in 2010 at the Rank of Assistant Professor. In addition, Boyd serves on five Advisory Committees and is currently a NAACLS Accreditation Volunteer (since 2006) including a Site Visit Team Coordinator as well as an Educator Generalist. Boyd serves as a board member for the Arkansas Society for the Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and he also serves as a board member of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association. Past memberships include American Evaluation Association, Canadian Society for Evaluation and Assessment, and the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (STEM programs).
Boyd has taught Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics, Research Design, and Health Sciences for more than 20+ years in both Mississippi and Louisiana. In terms of Higher Education Administration, Boyd has been the Department Head and Director for MLT for the past 13+ years. He has environmental research experience from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Bioremediation (Microbial, Chemical Oxidation, and Photolysis). He also served as an Evaluation/Research Analyst for the Mississippi State Department of Health and related community-based organizations, and as a Technical Consultant for the States of IL, OK, TN, AZ, and FL. At ASU-Beebe, Boyd teaches Clinical Microscopy (Urinalysis & Body Fluids), Clinical Hematology (Hemostasis/Coagulation), Clinical Chemistry, Immunology & Serology, Clinical Immunohematology, and Clinical Microbiology (including Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, and Entomology).
Boyd received the 2007 Outstanding Faculty Award and the 2016 NAACLS Volunteer Recognition Award. He has more than 25+ papers presented and/or published, and he has several invited and completed book-chapter authorships. Boyd has been a National Certification Examination Writer and Reviewer for the National Certification Agency (NCA) in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, and Laboratory Operations. Lastly, Boyd has been a grant reviewer and has reviewed and edited more than 10+ textbooks. The MLT student laboratory at ASU-Beebe has received more than $1.5M in in-kind donated equipment, reagents, and supplies from area clinical affiliates.
