Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy technicians play an integral role in today's medical field.  These professionals are responsible for the control or distribution of pharmaceuticals in hospital, clinical and retail settings.

It is a structured, fast-paced environment, and pharmacy technicians are committed to their profession and the people they serve. The Pharmacy Technician Program at ASU-Beebe is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).  ASU-Beebe offers three options in this field of study —Certificate of Proficiency, Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology.

Due to the shift in job responsibilities, pharmacists are now serving functions that are more clinical in the pharmacy environment. This shift places a greater demand on the need for qualified pharmacy technicians to serve the distributive function within pharmacy. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook (2017), "employment for pharmacy technicians is expected to grow much faster than average" through 2024. The annual average starting pharmacy technician salary is $28,225 for the state of Arkansas (Salary.com, 2017). Pharmacy technicians are in demand for both full and part-time positions, making this career a flexible choice.

In this area of study, hands-on experience complements classroom learning. These experiences help prepare you for national certification, a distinction that creates valuable opportunities with employers across the country. With basic and intermediate level competencies developed within a well-rounded curriculum, the certification and the credentials give you a definitive edge when entering the highly competitive field of pharmacy.

The ASU-Beebe Pharmacy Technician Program has been recognized for educational excellence by the Community for Accredited Online Schools. The program was ranked first among two-year colleges in the nation. For more information, open the following link to view the Pharmacy Technician Award.
